The Precourt Institute research funding programs listed below are for research projects led by Stanford faculty members.

StorageX Initiative Seed Grants

- Broad and focused areas in energy storage
- Encourage faculty new to research in energy storage

- $50,000-$100,000 per project, for up to 2 years
- Fundamental, pre-commercial, high-risk, high-reward
- Teams of >2 faculty
- Broad and targeted areas defined by SEA, industrially relevant research
- Obtain follow-on funding
- Calls every 2/3 years, funded 6 projects in 2021
- $500,000 – $1.5M per project, for 3 years
TomKat Solutions
- Support faculty, students, and staff.
- Funding to enable the development of rapidly deployable solutions to urgent problems in energy and the environment.
- Program helps teams move their solutions from ideation to deployment.
- 3 phased funding based on milestones and deliverables.
TomKat Graduate Fellowships for Translational Research
- Support advanced doctoral students (third year and beyond)
- Support the development of applied research that has the potential to address sustainable energy and sustainable resource utilization challenges
- Stipend and tuition for up to 2 years
TomKat Center Innovation Transfer Program
- Support faculty, students and staff
- Initiate the commercialization of impactful Stanford sustainable energy innovations
- Develop advanced working prototypes, conduct customer and market trials, and refine business plans over a period of 3-12 months.
- Grants up to $50,000
